CASTLE HISTORY
Le Château de Celles, dit Château de Vêves, classé monument exceptionnel, est l'un des spécimens les plus remarquables de l’architecture militaire du XVe siècle.
Les fondations du château primitif remonteraient, d’après la tradition et les chroniques, à l’époque de Pepin de Herstal (670-714), attiré en ces lieux par le voisinage de Saint-Hadelin et par la situation favorable de la colline qui domine et commande l’ancienne route de Dinant vers Rochefort.
Détruits en 1200, reconstruits en 1230, les bâtiments brûlèrent au début du XVème siècle et furent rétablis après l’incendie. Le château resta une forteresse jusqu’à la fin du moyen-âge.
A l’époque de la Renaissance, une transformation complète des bâtiments fut effectuée ; plus tard, sous Louis XV, nouvelles modifications qui portèrent principalement sur l’aménagement intérieur, boiseries, alcôves et fenêtres murales. Le plan forme un triangle irrégulier flanqué de quatre grosses tours ainsi que deux autres plus petites.

Avec ses magnifiques tours et ses belles boiseries, le Château de Vêves semble tout droit sorti d’un conte de fée. Il est considéré comme l’un des plus beaux châteaux médiévaux de Belgique et sacré Patrimoine bâti préféré des Wallons!

Anno 1229… A knight enters the courtyard of the Château de Vêves in a hurry. He is returning from the Crusades, exhausted, but has brought back a coveted treasure… the Real Blood or Holy Grail, for those in the know.
Knights, noble lords, miscreants and impostors seek this treasure in order to obtain eternal life.
No less than Lancelot, Perceval, King Arthus & Engrevain, son of Lot d’Orcanie and Morganse, 2nd best knight in the world, and many others are on the hunt.
But it will be piously guarded here, within the walls of the Château de Vêves, for over 800 years, protected, defended body and soul so that it can be passed on to future generations…
